Dart Board Location

The dartboard should be setup in a safe place away from anything of value or anything that is breakable. The board should also be placed in an area so that no one may accidentally walk into the playing area during a game. The path to the board may become worn so if you want to protect your hardwood or carpeted floor you may want to purchase a mat (available from most dart stores). The mat also has a built in toe line and may be rolled up when not in use.

The board should be well-lit with lights that do not leave a shadow over the board. The lights must also be out of the way of darts thrown to the board. Track lights placed 18 to 24 inches in front of the board work very well. Some backboards come with lights for this purpose that are easily mounted directly on the backboard. Also, the path to the dartboard will become worn with use so a mat may be purchased to protect the area under this path.

Care for the Dart Board

Steel-tip boards will wear unevenly due to the nature of the game with the 20 section being used the most. The steel-tip dart board may be rotated and the wire ring (spider wire) repositioned (so the wire numbers are in the correct spot).

When playing electronic darts, dart tips will often break off and remain in the board. These should be periodically removed with either a tweezer or a point "pusher" available from most online dart stores.

Board Height and Throwing Distances

Steel-tip: The center of the bull should be 5'8" from the floor. The toe line should be measured at 7' 9 1/4" from the face of the board (not from the wall).

Electronic darts: The center of the bull should also be 5"8" from the floor. The toe line should be measured at 8' from the face of the board (not from the wall).
